Though it may sound the start to something painfully cliché, “a wise woman” did once say “I’m learning to become more uncomfortable in the space between where I am, and where I want to be”. More often than not, we become so complacent in sticking to a daily routine, one where an individual sticks to comfortable. It’s painfully ironic how we’re sold this idea of always needing to be ahead, only to be scolded when we burn ourselves out from the demanding schedule we set for ourselves. To put it simply, we are a society that is constantly obsessed with figuring out what the next step is, regardless of if we know where it is or not. That’s not to say that formulating a plan is easy, because it isn’t. But, what is fairly simple is deciding that you want to take the steps necessary to differentiate yourself from the place you used to be. Do not confuse this with the idea of reinvention, rather opt for deciding to say yes to activities or decisions that you wouldn’t normally do. You’d be amazed by the progress that can be found in the uttering one word. Three letters. Vincent Van Gogh once said, “Normality is a paved road; it’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow.” I say, choose to water them with yeses and see what can happen.
